Prague is awash with churches, many are open and welcome visitors….here are a few worth a visit.
Church of Our Lady before Tyn…….. The Grey Traveller could not find the entrance but loved the cafe area in the grounds, it can be found between the Powder Gate and the Old Town Square.
St Nicholas Church in the Old Town Square ….. and I have to be honest I wandered in here due to a sudden downpour of rain….I was not alone, other visitors were sheltering. A few steps lead up into the church. Like all the churches I visited this was free to enter. Cream and gold interior with intricate paintings on the ceiling so look up! There are displays around the church both in English and Czech with information about the building and its history.
St Francis of Assisi Church is slap bang by the Charles Bridge on the eastern bank. Very ornate statues on the exterior whilst inside the decor is very dark.
Roman Catholic Parish Church of St Stephen, close to Charles Square in Jecna and slightly off the tourist beaten track. Big church with some unusual large cherubic figures featuring on the pillars.
