The Saffron Trail by Rosanna Ley

Always love a book that’s is set in a place I have visited or hope to visit. It’s not the first time that I have read a Rosanna Ley in fact I can remember the time and place it was Vence, summer 2017! …and that book was set in Cuba.

I digress this book starts in Cornwall and specifically the Roseland Peninsula and takes the reader to Marrakech and Essaouira…. it certainly brought back fond memories of Riad Kniza, the bamboo slatted shades over the narrow alleyways of the old city, the souks, the leather and the spices. Until this book I knew nothing much about the saffron industry but Rosanna’s book is informative, descriptive and engaging…..she told me loads!

The main character is fragile after losing her mum and is finding life difficult to navigate as a newly wed. She finds herself on a cookery course in Marrakech and a new female friend who has her own story to investigate. They both return with decisions made and a future a little different than they had previously planned.
