Colourful area consisting of steep tiled steps and the white broad Lapa arches. Worth a visit for some bright photos if you can cope with a climb and avoid being injured by the selfie stick brigade …….I kid you not!
This is an area I later learned that Ronnie Biggs used to live in. It is a steep flight of steps decorated with brightly coloured house tiles. It is busy with tourists taking photos, posing for that ‘just right look’ but despite this you can not help but be in awe of the gent who started this project and which is now a Rio attraction in itself. Once you have climbed the steps you can take a slightly easier route down a sloping street to the base of the white Lapa arches which cross an intersection. You might get to see a tram travelling across. From there we combined a walk to the Centrio area and the pretty Praca Floriano with its impressive buildings.
