This is one of the great Washington Smithsonian’s in the National Mall. Close to the The Capitol end of the Mall. The National Museum of the American Indian was not one I had planned on visiting but looking back, so glad that I did.
The unusual curved building is invitation enough to step inside and wander the four storeys. You are advised to start at the top with the theater production and wind your way down.
Cultural displays with quotes from many of the tribal leaders makes this an authentic experience or at least it did for me. The history of why and how the Indians lost their land is a poignant reminder. Spent about an hour and half here. Like the other Smithsonian museums it offers a complimentary entrance and there are shops and eating areas.
