Travelling from Kaleliya to Kandy on the A1 we twisted and wound round the lush countryside of Sri Lanka with Lal our private driver. We stopped off at Kajagama the cashew nut village and drank Ceylon tea at the Cashew House. The Cashew House is an open decked area with a roof made from plaited coconut leaves.
The roads were edged with shops and stalls selling the nuts and all are keen to make a sale. I stopped at a stall manned by children and they were delighted that I had chosen them and purchased a small pack for 200 Sri Lankan rupees (£1) and they were the sweetest nuts that I have tasted.
