He promised us a Top Gear experience as we crossed the Solent and that is certainly what we got. As the pilot revved up the engines we didn’t feel the seamless transition from land to water and within twenty minutes we had island hopped from Lee on the Solent slipway to Ryde Esplanade. All this with a thrilling 360 degree spin and a great view of sailing boats as we left Lee beach and approached Ryde.
The lunchtime Flyer does what it says on the tin, it leaves Lee on the Solent at mid day and returns two hours later allowing you time for a short walk and a lunch in one of the many cafes and restaurants in Ryde. In fact the website offers a deal with either The Royal Esplanade Hotel or Ryde Castle. Meal deals or just the flyer ticket can be ordered online for collection at the ticket office opposite the Lee on the Solent Hovercraft slipway.
The launching of the hovercraft from either Lee or Ryde always attracts a crowd so The Grey Traveller felt like a celebrity when boarding, it has to be the way to travel……… fast, fun and fab!
