Bangkok Airport is one of the major hubs in Asia, relatively new and about a half hour drive from the centre of the city. It’s an airport I’ve found myself in many times and have explored its many corners marvelling at the huge colourful statues, watched the heavy rains fall on the glass sided concourse and had my feet massaged all in the name of killing time…………..so when I find something new I feel it’s something I’ve got to share.
- On the basement floor en route to the Novotel Hotel are some sleeping boxes inspired I’m sure by the Japanese hotel pods where space is a premium in Tokyo. Operated by Boxtel they are certainly compact and bijou and near rest rooms. They are clean and somewhere to lay your head for a few hours…….. after all what more do you want especially if you have a long transit time. Follow the signs to the Novotel hotel and you will find this little village of boxes.
- Also new to the airport is Bangkok Airway’s boutique lounge by Gate A2. Celebrating its fiftieth birthday, this efficient airline now offers a boutique lounge with complimentary WIFi, newspapers, juices, coffee and snacks. I enjoyed sticky banana rice expertly rolled in a banana leaf and a miniature muffin. Comfortable chairs, hand spray and a haven for this Grey Traveller from a busy airport concourse.
Can’t wait for an excuse to try a sleeping box!
