There are many temples in Chiang Mai, suffice to say more than your average traveller will get a chance to see on a first time visit.
For me Wat Chedi Luang stood out. There are several temples on the site for visitors to enter and also a brick built monolith decorated with elephants. On one side the elephants are missing and this is due to earthquake damage many hundreds of years ago.
There is accommodation for novices and monks and a programme encouraging visitors to take time out and chat with monks to help them improve their English. Here are a few photos to whet your appetite. Wat Chedi is located just off the main road which slices West to East in the old city.
