Barefoot in the Park – New York City

Watching the opening titles of sixties film Barefoot in the Park, Jane Fonda and Robert Redford reminded me of my visit to the city that never sleeps 9 years ago.

The newly wed couple paid just $30 a night at the Plaza and I guess I must have paid 4 or 5 times that amount nearly a decade ago at The Paramount.

Is it really so easy for a newly wed couple? he a newly qualified lawyer and she a housewife to rent an apartment on 10th Avenue today? What would it cost now I wonder?

There is always something so familiar about cities like New York, maybe because we have visited them so many time before in the movies. ….but yes a city that never sleeps and one I would like to return to even if I can’t afford the Plaza!
