Bank holiday, an extra day and a reason to trial a staycation! Ross on Wye in beautiful Herefordshire is conveniently located in central England meaning it’s easy for most of the country to visit.
A small town perching on a steep hill overlooking the River Wye it has a slew of shops from charity to expensive boutique, a slew of eateries from pubs offering Sky Sports to upscale No 3 and a mix of accommodation. The Grey Traveller stayed at the Royal Hotel and was truly not disappointed with comfortable boutique style rooms and a bar which spilled onto a veranda overlooking the Wye Valley. Prime spot to walk to restaurants in the evening and shops during the day. Also conveniently located for river walks, all this and you don’t need to move your car from the hotel car park, deep joy! But if you do want to get in the car you can easily reach Monmouth, Symond’s Yat, and Hereford.
So in a nutshell reasons to stay in Ross are –
- Friendly people and a big shout out to the new bar lady at Man Of Ross who told us lots about the area and introduced us to the massive fish finger sandwich meal. Also thanks to the gent front of house at No3 who couldn’t seat us but was happy to direct us to Avellinos.
- Convenient for river walks.
- Good choice of restaurants to suit all tastes – we ate at Man of Ross, Avellino and Yaks n Yetis and were not disappointed with any of the meals.
