Just an hour in Daytona!

You are forgiven for thinking that someone who has just flown through Daytona are hardly qualified to blog a post about about this coastal stop off but as a geographer I have to comment on the two tone sands of Daytona.

Up until my visit I had only known Daytona as the place where cars race along the beach and certainly I saw evidence of areas where this happens albeit I didn’t spy any soft tops racing. It was stop off on a road trip between St Augustine and Clermont and we were lucky enough to find parking close to the pier.

img_6203With the Florida sunshine doing what it does best at mid day the sea was sparkling and the pier looked almost newly painted so it would have been a crime not to have a beer and look out to sea……. but I spent most of my time looking at my feet. The sand here is beautiful, honey AND terracotta coloured and made for some interesting patterns where water met beach. I haven’t seen a beach like it before………………
