Beautiful Boston, I knew less about you than I did your brash flash sister New York but your memories live on…..am I the only one to love you more than NYC? Here’s why..
1 Boston is very much a compact walkable city especially if you are staying central. The Grey Traveller stayed at The Langham in Franklin Street just a hop, skip and a jump from Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. You can see the entire city from the The Sky Walk Observatory in the Prudential Center, get a view with a gin and tonic as well as shop till you drop in the mall downstairs.
2 It mixes sea with city really well, harbour walks and city escape combine really well, literally a breath of fresh sea spray minutes from the famous landmarks. Boston Harbour Walk gives you great views of the city when you look back.
3 The International (Logan) Airport is less than half an hour away from the centre, that has to be a bonus when you have travelled long haul. After a long haul flight if you are a Grey Traveller like me, you are anxious to get where you are going if only to sleep and stretch out!
4 Boston serves the best Italian food ever, with a square mile or two of Little Italy there are numerous Italian eateries in North End, you can not go wrong if you need an authentic pasta or pizza fix.
5 They do Christmas so well from the Radio City production to the tasteful decorations especially around the Beacon Hill area. Nothing is over the top it is classy with a capital C, from the magnificently lit tree outside the State Building to the door knockers in Beacon.
…….. and the half goes to those gorgeous bronze ducks on Boston Common, my they are cute! So quack quack Boston you have my vote, I will cross the pond again some day.
